What we teach

Eight disciplines. One instructor who has actually done the job.

Everything here is a real, assessable qualification — Lantra Awards, City & Guilds (NPTC), Qualsafe Awards or IOSH — not a certificate of attendance dressed up as one.

The Course Finder

Stop guessing which ticket you need.

Most people ring us asking for the wrong course — usually a longer and more expensive one than they need. Answer five questions and the finder builds you a proper pathway: what you need first, what you actually need, and what is worth adding on the same visit.

1What do you do?Arb, forestry, farming, grounds, conservation, utilities, activity — or none of the above.
2What do you need to be able to do?Pick the actual tasks. Fell a 400mm oak. Strim a churchyard. Be the first aider.
3What have you already got?Existing tickets change the answer — often to a two-day refresher.

Where we work

Three home sites. One very long tow rope.

ScJ Training has its own sites in Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire and the North East — but training and assessing work is carried out throughout the UK. If you have suitable ground we will come to you; if you have not, we will find somewhere that works.

  • Delivered at your premises, at one of our sites, or at a site we source for you.
  • Complete packages arranged — training and the assessment that follows it.
  • Group sizes kept small so nobody spends the day watching somebody else cut.

Why people come back

Three reasons, in the client’s own words

01

Expertise

The key here is not just practical experience but the skill to train people from varied backgrounds in a way that is most effective for their learning style. Some people can have difficulty getting to grips with new techniques — we will help you through the process and do our best to achieve a successful outcome.

02

Workload

Many organisations take on too much work, leading to a slow response time and inattention to detail. ScJ Training prides itself on the personal service we provide — we respond to emails, return phone calls and keep you informed, while working flexibly around your available time.

03

Honesty

We pride ourselves on honesty and clear advice. We will talk you through the different courses available and find the one that is genuinely suited to your needs — not the longest one on the price list.

Sam is a great instructor / assessor that works well with our clients. I have no issues over recommending him to others or using him for our training / assessing needs.

AP A. P. PeacockTree Tech Ltd

ScJ Training took time to understand my requirements and organised a course and assessment that fitted around me and my work commitments. I passed and am looking forward to what I can do next.

Sam covered all aspects of the course in detail and answered any questions that was asked. Excellent service. Very professional, would recommend.

TA T. AustinEmergency First Aid at Work

I was skeptical at first whether I would learn anything new — it was a great refresher course and proved that you are never too old to learn new techniques.

Common questions

Before you pick up the phone

ScJ Training has its own sites in Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire and the North East, and training or assessing work can be conducted throughout the UK. We can deliver at your premises, at one of our sites, or find a suitable site for you.

Courses are delivered through Lantra Awards, City & Guilds (NPTC), Qualsafe Awards, IOSH, or as one of our own bespoke courses. ScJ Training Ltd is a Lantra Awards and Qualsafe Awards registered centre, and we use Lincolnshire Proficiency Tests Committee as our main approved City & Guilds assessment centre.

Yes. Group sizes are kept deliberately small so everyone gets individual attention, and we can arrange a complete package including assessment either at your premises or at a suitable site.

Ask. We offer a full suite of training and can often source or build a course around a specific requirement — send an enquiry and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work certificates are valid for three years. A First Aid at Work certificate can be renewed on the two-day requalifying course provided it has expired by no more than three months — after that you need the full three-day course again.

It depends on the course. For chainsaw and machinery courses many learners bring the saw or machine they will actually be using at work, which we would encourage. Get in touch and we will confirm exactly what to bring and what PPE is required.

Not sure which course you need?

Tell us what you need to be able to do and we will tell you honestly what it takes to get there — including if the answer is a shorter course than you expected.
