About this course
Qualification Overview
Aim of Qualification
The aim of the qualification is to enable Learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider.
Structure of the Qualification
This qualification is comprised of two mandatory units with a total value of 2 credits with 20 guided learning hours*
*Guided learning hours are provided as a guide to the estimated hours an average Learner would study to gain the unit. This does not have to be face to face instructional time and can include self directed study at home, such as reading course handouts and further self study. We recommend that the minimum face to face time that the QA Level 2 Award in Activity First Aid (QCF) should be delivered in is 12 hours contact teaching (excludes breaks).
Intended Audience
The qualification is designed for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide First Aid when dealing with an emergency situation whilst undertaking activities, such as sports, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, etc.
Work it out
How many first aiders do you actually need?
Your first-aid provision comes from a needs assessment, not a guess. Put your numbers in and this gives you the starting point the HSE's guidance points to — then we will sanity-check it with you for free.
Anything else true of your workplace?
Indicative only. It follows the numbers in the HSE's first-aid needs assessment guidance and does not replace that assessment, or account for everything specific to your workplace — including the +F / Forestry requirement for chainsaw work. Read the HSE guidance, or ask us to help — we are happy to.
Would a different course suit you better?
The Course Finder cross-checks what you need to do against what you already hold — it will happily tell you that a shorter course is enough.
