About this course
Course description
The first day of this course takes place in a workshop environment, either in the wood or indoors and takes the candidate through:
- Risk Assessments,
- Health & Safety legislation,
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
- Identification & inspection of key parts of the chainsaw,
- Saw preparation for work,
- Daily & routine chainsaw maintenance (including chain identification and sharpening).
The second day is spent in the wood and covers:
- Site safety, Risk Assessment & Emergency Procedures at a work site,
- Pre-start checks & starting procedures,
- Operate the chainsaw safely & effectively,
- Correct stance, grip, cross-cutting and removing a trapped saw,
- Log and moving and stacking produce.
Following training, the candidate is then assessed by an independently appointed City & Guilds (NPTC) Assessor and successful candidates will receive a City & Guilds (NPTC) Certificate of Competence.
Assessment
The assessment is divided into 2 compulsory units and usually takes half a day to complete:
- Unit 30.1 – Maintenance of the chainsaw
- Unit 30.2 – On-site preparation and basic crosscutting
Course Availability:
The maximum number of candidates is limited to four and courses run all year round once full. Discount is available is you provide all four candidates and course dates can be tailored to suit your requirements.
